A British Airways flight reportedly encountered technical problems after failing to land on Saturday, just days after its suspension was lifted.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the Department of Agriculture has placed a total ban on the movement of livestock in northern parts of the province following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease.
Take note drivers affiliated with Uber, Bolt, InDriver, and Uber Eats are planning a nationwide shutdown. The e-hailing drivers intend to stop major routes and disrupt services for three days in the coming week.
Meanwhile, Zwelinzima Vavi is not going down without a fight as he addresses Saftu’s intention to place him on suspension through a letter.
And in the Western Cape, the MEC for Transport has slammed the petrol bomb attacks on service delivery vehicles allegedly by Nyanga taxi drivers.

JUST IN: British Airways flight fails to land in Cape Town
Just days after its suspension was lifted, a British Airways flight has reportedly encountered technical problems after it failed to land.
According to eNCA, passengers say the flight BA6324 from Gqeberha to Cape Town failed to land and was able to do so on its second attempt. Comair said the aircraft had a landing gear warning indication that required standard safety checks.
On 12 March, the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACCA) suspended Comair’s operating certificate for 24 hours over a recent “spate of safety incidents”. The CAA said that the issues relate to landing gear malfunctions.

Foot and Mouth disease outbreak detected in northern KZN
The Department of Agriculture in KwaZulu-Natal has placed a total ban on the movement of livestock in northern parts of the province following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease.
The department says it is trying to curb the spread which has been detected in three regions. KwaHlabisa, KwaNongoma and Mtubatuba are among the most affected.
Symptoms of Foot and Mouth include:
- Formation of vesicles in the mouth and on the feet (interdigital space, coronary band and bulbs of the heel)
- Lameness and salivation (sometimes lacrimation), smacking of the lips, grinding of the teeth and a nasal discharge
E-hailing drivers plan three-day shutdown of major routes and services
Drivers affiliated with Uber, Bolt, InDriver and Uber Eats are planning a nationwide shutdown. The e-hailing drivers are intending to stop major routes and disrupt services for three days in the coming week.
The e-hailing providers are calling on the South African government to regulate the industry they work for. The Public-Private Transport Association stated that the regulations would go a long way.
It hopes that “exploitation of the industry” by other e-hailing services will be eradicated if Government steps in. The spokesperson for the association Vhathuka Mbelengwa stated that there was a list of demands, reports EWN.

“The agenda is not going to succeed” – Vavi on Saftu suspension
General-Secretary for the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) Zwelinzima Vavi has spoken about the ongoing issues. Vavi revealed that he is in high spirits and his work at the offices of Saftu is continuing.
Affiliates at Saftu have banded together to show their support for Vavi. Many have rejected the headline-making notice of intent to suspend Vavi. Vavi founded Saftu in 2017, just two years after he was ousted from Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).
Western Cape Transport MEC slams taxi drivers for petrol bomb attacks
Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works, Daylin Mitchell has condemned the attack on service delivery vehicles reported this week.
On Friday, 18 March the City of Cape Town reported that 5 of its vehicles were set alight in Nyanga. This includes Golden Arrow buses, a Municipal truck and an Eskom vehicle. These were reportedly torched during the protest action that is linked to a law enforcement operation in the area.
